Focus Your Photography Business On Marketing

Focussing on marketing is vital for a photography business to grow.

To get that focus in a world of distraction can be very difficult, but I can help.

I must admit i am not a big fan of online courses.

But I have created one…WITH A DIFFERENCE.

Any online course is a templated affair, created usually by a photographer who
has only had the experience of doing things ONE way.

But that one way will probably not be suitable for other photographers who are in
a different country, different town, or in a different place on their photography business
So online courses can be a total waste of your hard earned money.

What makes yours so different you say?

Well when you buy my online course you also buy ME!

The course is called “Get More Portrait Photography Clients …FAST”

With my marketing online course we have 2 x Skype sessions together during the course
so that I mould all the information into YOUR specific needs dependant on where YOU live
and where YOU are in your business.

Makes sense hey!?

It’s like having me as a partner in your business.

With over 40 years as a successful photography business owner, with having done thousands of portrait
shoots and sales, with having photographed thousands of weddings, and with coaching photographers
around the world, do you think I would be of value in helping you?

In my coaching I am helping photographers create income daily.

Before you say ” I can’t afford you Bernie” let me tell you the cost.

If you can’t afford that then you have a financial problem.

There are lots of other things you could buy for $297, but if you want to grow your business, this can
do that.

I have only just set this up, so after the first 10 photographers have purchased it I will put the price up to
what it is really worth.

Check it out here……

How To Love Selling Your Photography

Converting prospects into clients can be the most challenging part of the business for many photographers.
They may know exactly who their target market is, and where to find them.
For these photographers, it’s not lead generation that’s the biggest challenge – it’s lead conversion.
When photographers struggle with getting their conversion right, the problems usually come up in the sales session.
Prospects give you excuses about why they can’t buy now or they put up resistance to the prices you’re charging.
Other times, you may be close to making a good sale, but then the customer changes their mind.
Ahhhg !…… I hate that!
For photographers struggling with lead conversion, it’s usually because the prospect has set the criteria for what they want in a photographer, and not what the photographer expects from the client.
This means that the customers start running your photography business, and that is never going to work well.
The solution isn’t to follow a prospect’s wants – it’s for you to set the rules of engagement.
When you set your rules, you’re in control of the sales process, not the other way around.
The first thing to do when setting the buying criteria is to make sure that the customer is fully aware of your expectation that they are going to purchase products from you, and that they follow your set of processes,
Then, you can keep them in control and nurture them forward.
Finding out their hot button is also very important as this is the reason that they will buy.
Some hot buttons are obvious, like they have never had a family portrait taken, but have always wanted one.
Others aren’t quite so obvious, but it is important to find out what they are.
You must also ask yourself the question as to what value does the prospect gain from working with you as a photographer, compared to all the other photographers out there?
And don’t tell me it is your great looks and amazing personality!
Getting the “right” clients becomes the big benefit at sale time when your clients hand you their credit card.
What objections do you get when it comes to the sale?
Email me your top two objections at sale time and I will send you back a way to respond.

Photography Business Disruption

Love this from photographer Scott Stratten.
“We’re in the age of disruption.
Today’s business climate is changing at an unprecedented rate.
Every week, it seems there is a new strategy, social media site or technology that is a “must use” or a “game changer.”
What we lose in this endless quest for the next bright shiny business object is that business while everything has changed, nothing is different.
Trust, connection, consistency, and service will always trump any new app to hit the market.
What is real and what are only smoke screens in the business world today?
The Digital Decision: Your market today is forming buying decisions well before coming to you.
Marketing today means getting in front of them when they’re making these important choices.
Scott will be appearing at Imaging U.S.A. in Atlanta Feb 2019.
….Hope to see you there.

Photography Business Challenges Ahead

I have never seen such a massive change in the photography industry since the digital revolution.

Digital changed ninety percent of the way photographers did on a day to day basis.

The way photographers photographed changed, as did there workflow and production of products.

The digital file became the most requested product from the consumers, and large wall portraits became almost obsolete.

Now we have a massive shift in the way that photographers do their Marketing.

If you have had your photography business nowadays you now need….

…great engaging text copy in your Facebook ads, and on your website,

…use Chatbots,

…have a Pixel as well as a Lead Magnet on your website,

…send out regular newsletters via Mailchimp or similar,

…and be using a tried and tested Sales Funnel ,

…use Calendly, for prospects to book in a phone call with you.

Oh boy !

A photography business sure wasn’t this complicated a couple of years ago!

The world sure has changed and as photographers we have to keep up with the change.

Below is a Sales Funnel from a Facebook ad.

It may look complicated, but once it is set up it is automated and gives the potential client lots of touch points to build trust, and also at the same time qualifies them.

If you have a Sales Funnel that isn’t working just contact me and I will see if I can help.

Setting Your Prices Can Be Hard.

One of the hardest things for photographers to do in their photography business is to set their prices.

In this podcast with “Photographer Journey”, that just went live , I talk about the different 3 different options on creating a price list,
and how to get your mindset right to maximise your sales.

There is also a great FREE price guide download.

Get It Printed Movement

Last year The Professional Photographers of America implemented a great initiative and created a movement to encourage consumers
to get their files printed, and to help professional photographers in the art of selling photographic printed products.

Professional Photographers of America (PPA) is the largest international, non-profit association created by professional photographers, for
professional photographers.

Almost as long-lived as photography itself, PPA’s roots date back to1869. It assists more than 30,000 members through protection, education
and resources for their continued success and is leading the effort in helping consumers, professional photographers and photographic suppliers
see the value in printing photographs.

The most photographed generation of all time could wind up  being the next Lost Generation.

42% of people between the ages of 30 and 44 will likely look back and wonder where photos of their childhood, holiday get-togethers, relatives
and friends have gone decades from now, and, reportedly, 67% store their photos solely on a  computer or phone.

Statistics show that a staggering 53% of consumers have not printed a photo in more than 12 months, 70% don’t have photo albums, and 42% no
longer print photos at all.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

We know that everything from candles, bicycles and vinyl albums have survived the “disruption” caused by technological advancements.

We have to remember the value and importance of printed, framed, and mounted photographs in our lives and for the generations after us.

Children love to see images of themselves around the house, newlyweds have fond moments when they see their wedding photo on the mantle
or walls, and our most beloved pets are sealed in time…all thanks to the power of print.
That’s why PPA, along with leading photography industry partners, has created PRINT.

The movement’s mission is to educate  photographers and consumers alike on the value and importance of printed photographs.

For photographers, it’s a chance to show their community and their clients that they know what it takes to create a finished product that speaks
much louder than a digital file and that will withstand the test of time.

Some of the partners backing this initiative are: American Color Imaging, Bay Photo, BWC Lab, Canon, Canson, Chromaluxe, Collages, Finao,
Fundy, GW Moulding, H&H Color Lab, Hahnemuhle, Kodak Alaris, Marathon Press, Meridian, Miller’s Professional Imaging,
Professional Photographers of America, Simply Color, Tyndell Photographic, and White House Custom Color.

When you join THE MOVEMENT you get FREE marketing resources to help your clients and prospects see the value of printing and preserving family histories in photos.

All the information is here.

A lot of these resources can be used in your Blog or Newsletters, or social media.

Great to see the photography industry getting together for this great incentive.

What Do People Buy?

One of my clients who just started out at creating a business for their photography asked me a couple of interesting questions this week.
She asked…..

Do you think most people actually buy different types of photos?
Should I focus on learning a different style of photography than what I am doing now?
Very interesting question I thought.
Let’s face it, as professional photographers we photograph ultimately for money.
As much money as possible.
So the question is, what type of photographs do people buy?
I think in general people buy photographs that……..
1. Flatter
2. Show personality
3. Show relationship
4. Are technically good
5. Reflect happiness
If a photograph contains most or all of these elements, I feel that the photographs
become very saleable.
Focus on getting these elements in your photographs, and your sales will soar.
Maybe portrait sales like one of my Inner Circle members had this week.
One sale was for $8,330 while another on the same day was $3,695.
Yes, get all the elements right and your bank account will thank you.

Build Your Photography Business.

I love nothing more than visiting photographers and chatting to them about their photography business.

As my ongoing role as a photography business coach I have been able to do this in many countries around the world.

There is one thing that all these photographers have in common, and that is they all tell me that it takes time to create a successful business.

It seem like nowadays that we all want the quick result in building our photography business.

Quick money!.

Overnight success.

The Magic Wand.

If you are just starting your photography business, my advice is to change your Mindset and be prepared
to play a much longer game.

It does take time to build a photography business.

It also takes time to build trusted relationships with potential clients.

Focus on delivering on a regular basis, great products and good services.

Build your reputation and watch your photography business grow

The most successful photography businesses I know, have their clients coming back to them time and time again.

In my own business as a studio owner I had many clients coming back to me for their photography over
four, seven, and sometimes more than ten years.

Think of your business long term, and you are much more likely have a lasting and financially rewarding return.

Check out this video that I recorded last week with photographer Dean Mainsbridge from Zanzo Studio,
in Hobart Tasmania.

Dean has had his studio for 10 years now and mentions how building a photography business takes time.

When you are ready I have 5 ways that I can help you grow your business.

Putting Prices On Your Photography Products

Putting Prices On Your Products.
When you get an enquiry for your photography, do you send out a price list?
Is this working?
Do you get a good response?
Capturing leads is critical in keeping your business financially sound.
Talking of prices, one of my clients has the prices on all of her products in her sales room.
Just like a retail shop.
This makes sense to this when you think about it.
If what you are doing isn’t working it may be time that you came up with an alternative approach.
Creating and running a successful photography business is not about “one size fits all” as some coaches out there would make you believe.
Each photographer is an individual, not only in the way that they photograph, but also in their photography business systems.
Building these business systems and strategies takes time, but you must also realise that if you are building the wrong ones, then you are wasting your time and your business isn’t going to be the success that you may have hoped for.
Make sure you “test and measure” everything that you do and change course when you need to.
Next week I will tell you the 2 critical things that you MUST have to create a successful photography business.
You will be surprised on what these 2 things are.

Rockstar Photographer

From Gary Fong’s book. So You Want To Be A Rockstar Photographer.
“The inconvenient truth is that it’s harder than ever to forge success as a professional event photographer.
That’s why it’s critical to learn the real skills and secrets that will help you succeed day to day.
Not the motivational, “Buy a BMW and believe in yourself” stuff, but the hands-on, practical principles that generate business in the real world.
The Rockstar myth is not unique to photography.
In the Internet-driven world we live in, it’s hard to thrive in any field.
Economies are tough and global competition is ruthless. It is tempting to look for easy, sexy shortcuts to success.
Because of that, a huge cottage industry has erupted, filling freelancers and small business people with hopes that if they only take this course or that seminar, they, too, can enjoy six- or seven-figure lifestyles.
Most of the people offering the seminars are not real successes  themselves.”
Real Coaching.
My coaching programs are designed to get you RESULTS with unlimited email and phone contact with myself at any time.
This is the only way to FAST TRACK your business!
Regardless of what is on offer, the question is this…is it possible in this very competitive environment to earn a six figure
income from your photography?
I guess the only way to answer that is to ask a photographer who is making a six figure income in their business at this present time.
Amy Cope is one such photographer, who created a photography business that turns over six figures and she created it all on her own.
By the way she has 4 kids and runs her newborn photography business from home.
Watch this short video chat with Amy here………
